What to expect at your first eye appointment
An eye examination is a chance to talk about your vision, ask questions, and understand the health of your eyes. A little preparation can help you make the most of the visit.
Before you arrive
Write down any symptoms, when they began, and the questions you want to ask. Bring your medication list and relevant health history. Tell the doctor about diabetes or other conditions and any family history of eye disease. If you wear contact lenses, call ahead to ask what to bring.
During your examination
Your doctor will review your history and select tests for your needs. These may assess visual clarity, focusing, eye coordination, eye pressure, and internal eye health. A comprehensive eye examination considers more than how well you read a vision chart.
Ask about dilation
Dilating drops widen your pupils so your doctor can examine the inside of your eyes. Dilation may temporarily blur your vision and increase light sensitivity for a few hours. Bring sunglasses and arrange for someone to drive you home.
Leave with a clear next step
Ask what the findings mean, whether you need further care, and when to return. Your exam schedule depends on your individual needs. If you are looking for care in Richmond or nearby Rosenberg, call Brazos Family Eye Care at 346-702-3374.
